The ILO partnered with Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) in Kerala to promote recognition, decent work, and dignity for domestic workers. A network of para-legal volunteers across eight districts improved access to justice for those facing violence and harassment. SEWA engaged residential welfare associations and employers’ organizations to raise awareness and strengthen dialogue. The initiative is also supporting skills collectives in two districts to upskill domestic workers in elderly and bedside care, increasing their income and recognition as skilled professionals.
This initiative is part of the ILO’s Promoting rights and social inclusion through organization and formalization (PRS) – Phase 2 Project, supported by the Government of Japan, which works to reduce decent work deficits and support the transition of workers from informal to formal employment in India, Nepal, and Pakistan.
