If you've watched any video about Space Marine armor in the last five years, you've probably been told that Mark 2 and Mark 3 marines couldn't turn their heads—that the helmet was sealed to the gorget. Here's the problem: that's been retconned. The Horus Heresy books and miniatures have depicted turnable helmets for years. So why does every video still repeat it?You know the videos I'm talking about. You've seen them a hundred times.
A static PNG of some official artwork—usually that same piece of Mark III armor from the 2013 codex—slowly Ken Burns zooming across your screen while a monotone voice reads directly from Lexicanum. Maybe they've bothered to overlay some ambient epic orchestral music from a royalty-free library. Maybe they haven't. The script is indistinguishable from the wiki entry because it IS the wiki entry, barely paraphrased, read aloud for people who couldn't be bothered to scroll through the page themselves. And somewhere in that twenty-minute runtime, delivered with the confidence of established fact, comes the claim."Early marks of power armor had fixed helmets that prevented the wearer from turning their head."No citation. No qualification. No acknowledgment that this claim was contradicted by every Forge World miniature and Horus Heresy novel published in the last decade. Just the wiki talking point, regurgitated into your ears, contributing to the accumulated misinformation that has calcified around this hobby like mineral deposits in an old pipe.Unlike some videos, this one isn't sponsored by... you know. What it is, however, is a corrective.
