STORYLINE:
Workers are restoring an exhibit depicting the history of the nine people once enslaved in Philadelphia despite a legal fight between the city and the Trump administration.

A city spokesperson says Mayor Cherelle Parker visited the site Thursday morning and thanked the National Park Service workers who were reinstalling the exhibit.

On Monday, a federal judge set a Friday deadline for the exhibit on the people enslaved by George Washington at the former President’s House to be restored on Independence Mall.

"When the exhibit was taken down, it was very devastating for the city. It was very devastated to me personally. I value the visibility of Black history, which is American history, so I'm really happy that it's restored," Philadelphia resident Jabari Cherry said outside of the exhibit.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is appealing the ruling.

A spokesperson says the office has no comment on the restoration work.
