The tape containing the above footage was recovered from an American soldier who was stationed in Baguio City. Along with other tapes containing recordings of Philippine television from approximately 1989 to 1991, this particular tape was deemed "special" and labeled "HYATT ???". After careful review, the recording was classified as anomalous by the Takipsilim.
The footage is dated July 20, 1990, and shows the ABS-CBN Channel 3 Baguio affiliate attempting to simulcast ABS-CBN Manila as usual. However, the broadcast was unexpectedly disrupted by a distorted and anomalous commercial for Hyatt Terraces Baguio, a hotel that had collapsed four days earlier due to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on July 16, 1990.
During the interruption, the footage captures ABS-CBN Baguio technicians seemingly trying to resolve the issue. The commercial aired in its entirety before the station finally managed to resume relaying Manila programming. However, the signal remained weak, likely due to the unexplained interference.
Further investigation led to an interview with a former ABS-CBN Baguio technician, who stated that the Hyatt Terraces Baguio commercial had never been scheduled or inserted by the station’s staff. This suggests that the broadcast may have been hijacked by unknown forces. He also recalled that at the very moment the commercial aired, an earthquake, presumably an aftershock, was occurring in the studios.
The collapse of Hyatt Terraces Baguio resulted in 80 fatalities, including 50 guests and 30 employees.
