Mega Man Zero 2 (GBA), no damage taken in Kuwagust Anchus's stage (Power Bom) while achieving an S-Rank (100 points); Active Form only. This video's part of a series; a playthrough dedicated to using only the Active Form for more stylish and fresh gameplay. This is a NG+ file.
Kuwagust Anchus (Power Bom) Overview:
I went into Kuwagust's stage knowing full well this was going to be one of the harder stages for this run. The first is obviously the very beginning section. As stated in my commentary, you really need to speed through the dialogue (if you have turbo, use that) to get the same cycle every time. Otherwise, the air fleets will all constantly shift back and forth off screen before Zero drops down to start the mission. You'll end up waiting more than you should because either the air fleets will temporarily fly too close apart for you to make the jumps, or the shots fired from the front and back of them will be firing at off-sync intervals. If you're on the right cycle, you don't have to stop not once if you primarily use the buster shot here via preemptive shots. If you aren't... well, be prepared to stop and wait a lot. But this is why I gave the platforming a 10/10: even if you get the right cycle, there's a chance the shots fired from the fleets will randomize upon start too... Add that to the fact that even ONE slip up in mobility can put you behind on the cycle. Talk about strict.
Second most problematic spot is defending Ciel. Trust me, if Mission Success points weren't affected by her getting hit, this part would be SO much less stressful. Even if she gets hit once, kiss that 100 points good-bye. So, you're basically playing no damage for two people now.... except the other one can't move. One other problem here is that the turrets that respawn tend to pop up with little warning, so if you're jumping and you happen to be on their spawn spot, that's a free hit for them. Memorizing where the spawn spots are while rushing back and forth to deflect shots from Ciel (AND keeping any Pantheons from getting too close, because their random jump habits can get crazy with all the chaos combined...) is a terrifying combination, which is why keeping the boomerang handy is necessary. Just don't hold the button for it, or else it'll go to Grade 2 charge and you'll accidentally throw it, leaving you and Ciel wide open.
Kuwagust Anchus isn't difficult, but I'd consider him a little more threatening than Phoenix. There's two reasons for this: 1) When he's firing those four lasers, he randomizes the pattern, and there's one particular pattern (the very first one he did in this video) that requires a TIGHT jump in between. It's REAL easy to jump a little too high and get hit because the spacing between the lasers are too tight. Then 2) his special attack. When he covers your whole path with gust, he's ram right into you. Your only option is to shoot him several times until he's redirected above you. More timing's involved in this, for if you don't fire at the right time, he'll still hit you even when you redirect him... I use the audio cue of him taking off to signal it's time to fire.
