An aspect of the sweet science is taking away something your opponent is doing to turn it around to make your game more successful.
Here we see Monzon having trouble landing his famous 1-2's because his opponent was using a lot of head movement and making Monzon miss.
Monzon countered this by using the uppercut, making his opponent think twice about rolling under punches and in turn slowing his head movement down.
This meant Monzon could get back to what he does best, using the long 1-2 at range to pick his opponent off with his thudding power
