In the Bhagavad-gītā, Krishna explains to Arjuna that the mind is the root cause of both our problems and our solutions. When the mind is uncontrolled, it leads to anger, harsh speech, and actions we later regret. But when the mind is controlled through spiritual practice, we can manage our emotions and speak thoughtfully.
The Mahābhārata demonstrates this teaching through various characters. Some characters like Duryodhana lose control of their minds, leading to angry outbursts and destructive speech, which brings suffering. Other characters like Yudhiṣṭhira and Vidura maintain mental discipline, control their anger, and speak with wisdom, which brings peace and
respect.
Controlling the mind can be achieved through practices like chanting, meditation, and following spiritual principles. These practices help purify the mind, reduce anger, and cultivate thoughtful, compassionate speech.
