This 1986 Fleer Basketball #9 Larry Bird was sent in to PSA in near mint to mint condition. They graded it a PSA 9. Somewhere between grading and/or during encapsulation, they completely destroyed the upper right corner of the card. The image on the PSA website that is taken after grading, also shows the damage they caused. This is completely unacceptable when you pay to send in your valuable cards to be graded. PSA is the one company you would think you could trust to use extreme caution.
Damage like this, is why its important to put an accurate declared value on your cards when you send them in. I am in the middle of a claim on this card and I'm sure they will make it right, as this happened once before to me on my previous order and it was the same upper right corner! They made it right that time but it took FOREVER! It has to be something with the encapsulation machine/process. When damage happens like this, they tend to reimburse no higher than the "declared value" you entered when you sent the cards in. Which is crazy because you do not know the grade when they are raw, so its impossible to know an accurate value. So set it high in case they damage the card!
