The Zambia Police Service releases its MOWIP report under the umbrella of the Elsie Initiative.
The MOWIP is a unique and innovative assessment designed to identify barriers and opportunities to women’s participation in peace operations and highlight good practices that could be replicated by other troop- and police- contributing countries to advance gender equality, both at home and in Peace Operations.
Zambia Police is one of the seven countries that have piloted the MOWIP and is one of the leading TPCCs from Southern Africa as it has the third highest proportion of women (circa 18%) of all TPCCs that contribute over 1,000 personnel. Standing just outside the top-20 TPCCs, it has the potential to both deploy higher numbers of policewomen in the future and also to share good practices with other TPCCs regionally and beyond.
