André Previn: Like Blue / Cabin in the Sky (Vernon Duke)

Описание: Previn (1929-2019) was one of the most accomplished musicians of this, or any, time. However, in the UK at least, he was not in the limelight at the end of his life to the extent that he was in the 1970s and 1980s. These pieces come from a collection 'The Genius of André Previn' published in 1980 (ISBN 0860017214) and still available from IMP. I can't tell whether the arrangements were actually penned by Previn, or whether they were prepared by a 'ghost arranger' from his scores or recordings. Certainly, those of Previn's other solo piano works that I have seen are characterized by large chords needing big hands, which this collection does not show. However, the pieces in the collection are certainly effective - many of them play like transcriptions of jazz piano trio originals. The first piece is Previn's own; the second is his version of the Vernon Duke song from the eponymous film. [Note that the second note up in the last chord of the 13th bar from the end should be a B natural - but I doubt if you will notice unless you look for it in the score!]
