Golden Hour Setup & Extreme Prematurity

Golden Hour is an approach taken by most hospitals to improve prematurity patients outcomes with a gestational age of 32 weeks or less. It is important to complete a certain amount of tasks within the first hour of birth for this population.

Successful Golden Hour (completed within the first hour of life):
Labs Drawn (i.e. Blood Culture, CBC)
Central Lines Placed
Chest X-Ray to confirm line placement
Antibiotics administered
Erythromycin & Vitamin K (Eyes & Thighs)
Glucose
IV fluid/dextrose administration
Normalized Temperature

It is crucial to prepare for a Golden Hour admission prior to delivery in order to complete all the assigned tasks within the first hour of life.
