Описание: This is a new project I tried with my fifth graders this year. We discussed some of the characteristics of Pablo Picasso's abstract works and mimic his style by simplifying shapes and showing multiple perspectives on the same composition. I first tried having kids make a ceramic Picasso portrait on a flat slab but a number of my students said that was too easy so I encouraged them to push it further by making the portrait on a cup. The results were fantastic. Kids start by rolling their clay into a flat slab about a centimeter thick. Next they cut out a circle for the base and a rectangle to make the walls of the cup. Finally they decorate it using simple shapes cut from the scrap clay to make eyes, nose, mouth, ears etc. and rearrange the pieces. As with most of my videos this is silent so it can be used without disrupting the class. I have found it helpful to embed the video in my keynote presentations and set it to play in a loop with the learning targets written underneath. I just keep it up on the board throughout class and it really helps kids remember what is expected of them as they create their projects.
