Alcibiades (c. 450–404 BC) was a prominent and controversial Athenian statesman, orator, and general during the Peloponnesian War. A student of Socrates and a figure of exceptional charisma and ambition, he rose to great influence in Athens but fell from grace multiple times due to scandal, shifting loyalties, and political intrigue. After leading Athens into the disastrous Sicilian Expedition, he fled into exile, advising both Sparta and Persia at different times. Despite returning to Athens and achieving military success, he ultimately died in exile in Phrygia, far from his homeland. Alcibiades' life embodies both the brilliance and the volatility of classical Athens — a symbol of ambition, betrayal, and tragic downfall.
Lyrics:
Verse 1
From noble blood, a lion born, beneath Athena’s gaze adorned,
With Pericles to guide his path, he danced through war, through wine, through wrath.
A pupil at Socrates’ flame, he played with truth, and twisted fame,
A silver tongue, a golden face—he carved his will through time and space.
Chorus:
March! March! Let the bronze shields ring!
Let Sparta tremble and Persia sting!
Athens cries, and Syracusae burns—
Where Alcibiades turns, fate churns!
Verse 2
He led the fleet with fire and pride, then fled when justice turned the tide.
To Sparta’s court he bent the knee—then whispered secrets of the sea.
He drank with kings in Persia’s halls, yet heard in dreams old Athens’ calls.
No hearth, no oath, no side could chain the storm within his brilliant brain.
Chorus:
March! March! To the traitor’s hymn!
Torch the banners on every limb!
One man, ten lives, and none his own—
A throneless king of shifting throne!
Bridge
They begged him back, they crowned him bold—
In purple cloaks and helms of gold.
But fate is iron, and time is ash—
He fell again in treason’s clash.
A dagger in a foreign night,
He vanished by a firelight.
Final
March! March! Through dust and lore,
Past broken oaths and ships of war!
His name lives on where heroes tread—
Alcibiades: both crowned and bled!
