We just finished restoration on this beautiful Golden Era 1890 Chickering upright piano! This one was a joy to bring back to life. We rebuilt the entire action, refinished the plate with automotive-grade paint, replaced all the strings, recapped the bridges, and gave the soundboard proper downbearing so it’s under full tension once more. Now this unique piano is producing the rich, powerful tone Chickering is known for.

One detail I’m especially proud of are the ivory keys. Many of the original ivory keytops were still in excellent condition, so we restored those and replaced the missing or damaged ones with reclaimed ivory from other pianos we’ve rebuilt. It’s rare to see a set this complete, and it really adds to the authenticity.

What makes this piano extra special is the action design. Some of the original parts were so unique that we 3D printed replacements to preserve the original engineering while retaining historical craftsmanship. Now, it plays like-new again and is ready for decades of music making! This is a one-of-a-kind art piece, rebuilt in 2025 to play beautifully for generations.
