For new Bolt EV owners - or indeed any electric vehicle driver - cold weather can be a challenge. Reduced range and slower fast charging speeds in some circumstances mean road trips require a bit more planning as winter nears.
Even so, this quick weekend break from Boston, MA to Portland, ME shows that a well-positioned hotel and knowing where the local charging stations are located can make even cold weather EV road trips easy, with no gas stops stinking up your journey. Better yet, the DC fast charging infrastructure is expanding every month, providing new options for EV drivers and current alternatives to any aging charge stations.
(Thanks to my better half, this trip also demonstrates how you can squeeze quite a bit more mileage out of efficient electric cars like the Chevy Bolt EV, if you can just ease off that leadfoot a little...)
