For decades the case remained unsolved despite extensive investigations. In April 2022, authorities arrested Marvin C. “Skip” McClendon Jr., then in his mid-70s and living in Alabama, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with Tremblay’s death. Investigators said DNA evidence and other investigative work were key in linking him to the case. He pleaded not guilty.
The initial trial in 2023 ended in a mistrial when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. A retrial was held in 2024, and in November 2024 the jury returned a not guilty verdict on the murder charge.
