In Kung Fu (功夫), especially southern systems and Sanda application, 插捶 (Chaap Cheuih) is a very direct and penetrating strike designed specifically to affect the torso, ribs, and internal structure.
插 (chaap) = to insert, thrust, stab into
捶 (cheuih) = fist / hammering punch
Unlike wide punches, Chaap Cheuih concentrates force into a narrow line.
Effects:
• compresses ribs inward
• shocks intercostal muscles
• disrupts breathing rhythm
When inserted between ribs or into floating ribs:
• diaphragm spasms
• lungs cannot expand properly
• opponent instinctively folds
拳入肋下,氣即亂。
When the fist enters beneath the ribs, the breath is disturbed.
Proper Chaap Cheuih uses:
• waist power (腰力)
• relaxed penetration
• short explosive release
Instead of pushing, it sends vibration inward affecting:
• liver area (right side)
• spleen area (left side)
• solar plexus
Meaning of 拍腳 (Paak Geurk)
拍 (paak) = to slap, strike, check, intercept
