"Spinal breathing" or Merudanda pranayama in the context of Yogi Arunananda Muni refers to a meditative energy practice rooted in Indian Tantric and Yogic system along with Taoist internal alchemy and Qi Gong.

What is Spinal Breathing According to Yogi Arunananda muni?

Spinal breathing is a technique to circulate life-force ( Prana energy) (Qi or Chi) through the spine. according to Yoga there are 6 major chakras located in spine and involving two main energy channels:

Governor Channel (Du Mai): runs up the spine.

Conception Channel (Ren Mai): runs down the front of the body.

How It Works

1. Focus on the Breath: You start by calming the mind and focusing on slow, deep breathing.

2. Energy Awareness: With each inhale, you visualize energy ( prana) rising up the spine from the perineum to the crown of the head.

3. Exhale: You guide the energy down the front of the body, returning to the perineum, completing the orbit.

4. Activation of Energy Centers: Along the path, attention is brought to major energetic centers like the sacrum, solar plexus, heart, throat, and third eye.
