In einer abseits gelegenen Gasse entdeckt er schließlich die letzte noch existierende Buchhandlung. Und drinnen den uralten Ladenbesitzer, der seit 25 Jahren auf einen Kunden wartet …

The Last Bookshop stellt eine Zukunft dar, in der es keine physischen Bücher mehr gibt. Der erfahrene Schauspieler Alfred Hoffman (*5.10.1924 – †18.5.2023) spielt die Hauptrolle an der Seite seines jungen Kollegen Joseph 'Joe' Holgate (geb. 2000). — Produziert von The Bakery im Südosten Englands, fanden die Dreharbeiten 2011 statt, und die Postproduktion wurde 2012 abgeschlossen. Die Musik wurde von Owen Hewson komponiert und von Arlet gespielt.

Antiquariate scheinen allmählich aus unserer Welt zu verschwinden. In der berühmten Stadt Royal Tunbridge Wells in der Grafschaft Kent besuchte ich 2007 ein außerordentlich schönes Antiquariat: HALL'S BOOKSHOP. — Genau hier, an diesem Ort, wurde im Jahre 2011 der wunderbare Kurzfilm "THE LAST BOOKSHOP" gedreht, eine Hymne auf jene nach und nach verschwindende Kultur-Institution.

Gewidmet meinem Vater LOTHAR SCHMIDTKE (18.9.1926 – 6.4.2021), der in Leipzig eine Buchhändler-Lehre absolvierte und danach als Verlagsbuchhändler in verschiedenen Verlagen in Leipzig, Göttingen und Marburg gearbeitet hat.

A 12-year-old boy leaves his holographic entertainment behind and explores the abandoned old shop fronts outside. In a forgotten alleyway, he discovers the last bookshop still in existence. And inside, an ancient shopkeeper who has been waiting for a customer for 25 years ...

The Last Bookshop depicts a future in which physical books no longer exist. The experienced actor Alfred Hoffman (*5.10.1924 – †18.5.2023) plays the leading role alongside his young colleague Joseph ‘Joe’ Holgate (born 2000). — Produced by The Bakery in the South East of England, filming took place in 2011 and post-production was completed in 2012. The music was composed by Owen Hewson and performed by Arlet.

Antiquarian bookshops seem to be gradually disappearing from our world. In the famous town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in the county of Kent, I visited an exceptionally beautiful second-hand bookshop in 2007: HALL'S BOOKSHOP. — It was here, in this very place, that the wonderful short film ‘THE LAST BOOKSHOP’ was shot in 2011, a hymn to this gradually disappearing cultural institution.
