Описание: This U.S. Navy film "Undersea Pilot" features the crew of the Aluminaut. Made by the Reynolds Aluminum Co, Aluminaut was an experimental deep sea exploration submarine built in 1964. The Aluminaut is credited with rescuing the DSV Alvin-2 in 1969 after it sank, and helping to locate an atomic bomb lost off the coast of Palomares, Spain in 1966. Also featured in the film is footage of the NR-1, the Navy's nuclear powered research submarine, the bathyscaphe Trieste and Trieste II, and other vessels including the Perry Cubmarine. The film also includes footage of the Ben Franklin, a research vessel built by Jaccques Piccard which drifted in the Gulf Stream in 1969.

00-1:40: Opening sequence with underwater communication and maneuvers, setting the scene for a deep-sea voyage.
40-3:42: Historical overview of deep-sea exploration, from William Beebe's bathysphere to various submersibles like Trieste, Alvin, and others, highlighting their depth capabilities.
42-4:55: Introduction of specialized vehicles like the NR1 and DSSV, emphasizing their unique features for ocean floor studies and salvage operations, and the importance of viewports and lights for observation.
55-5:44: Explanation of how deep submersibles enable direct observation and study of marine life and geology at various depths.
44-6:45: Discussion of scientific research conducted using submersibles, including marine biology and geology studies, and the use of technology like cameras and streamers to analyze underwater phenomena.
45-7:46: Exploration of underwater engineering applications, such as cable maintenance, oil field exploration, and salvage operations, highlighting the recovery of the submarine Thresher and an H-bomb.
46-8:36: Description of the challenges and hazards faced by undersea pilots, including currents, sediment clouds, overhangs, and sea animals.
36-9:44: Further discussion of man-made hazards such as underwater cables, wrecks, abandoned ship gear, and explosive ordinances.
44-10:48: Dangers of surface traffic and sea conditions during ascent, and the importance of avoiding unusual objects.
48-12:52: Emphasis on the skill and dedication required for deep submersible pilots and crew, and an introduction to the capabilities of the submersible Illuminat.
52-14:29: Details about Illuminat's operational capabilities, including depth range, ballast systems, and emergency procedures.
29-15:33: Explanation of the various tasks performed by Illuminat, such as manipulator arm operations and bottom sampling.
33-16:52: Description of the control stations and crew roles within the submersible, including the use of closed-circuit television, sonar, and underwater telephones.
52-17:38: Explanation of how the crew uses depth meters, motor controls, and ballast systems to navigate and maneuver the submersible.
38-18:37: The pilot directing operations, and the use of diving planes and water ballast adjustments for movement.
37-19:36: The controller man's job and the importance of teamwork and communication during long dives.
36-21:34: Illuminat's mission to retrieve an experimental torpedo, with the pilot directing bottoming operations from the forward control station.
34-22:27: The crew communicating depth and location information, and slowly landing on the bottom.
27-23:24: The crew describing the sea floor, and begins to move towards the target.
24-24:57: Closing in on the target using sonar and visual confirmation.
57-26:30: The crew attaching the target to the ship.
30-27:37: The crew begins to surface, and expresses relief at the completion of the mission.
37-27:55: Concluding remarks about the reality of deep-sea exploration and the discovery of a new underwater world.
