This is a much better value than the other brand that looks very similar. It's well-made and well-designed, with significant weight and a large stable base to make it a stable scratching post, as well as a climbing pole for kitty confidence. With the aid of a bit of catnip, kitty took to it quickly and loves to stretch full-length to scratch (it's very tall, making that easy), as well as both hop onto the top from ground level or climbing it like a small tree trunk.

The sisal mat material is enticingly scratchy; it's her preferred scratching place, which was the whole idea, and wraps all the way around, which she loves as she wraps her legs around to rub and scratch. It's a little thin, so a really aggressive-scratcher will eventually poke holes, but so far our gentle kitty keeps it looking like new. As I've seen mentioned in other reviews, I wish the center sisal post had symmetrical mounts on both ends, so it could be removed and flipped over for fresh scratching surfaces as it wears out.

The little fuzzy ball on the elastic string is a fun toy for her (and it comes with a bonus replacement ball!) as is the nice furry top for perching and observing her little world from above.

With the caveat that more time is needed to gauge real longevity, this is definitely a recommended post.
