ERS/Ernakulam Junction (South) -- LTT/Lokmanya Tilak Terminus

The Ernakulam–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Duronto Express is a bi-weekly nonstop Duronto Express train between Kochi and Mumbai, running through the scenic Konkan Railway route. It is considered to be the 2nd fastest option for train connectivity between Kochi and Mumbai.

The service of this train started on January 14, 2011 from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Ernakulam Junction. This train is a typical Duronto Express. It had no commercial stops in between the starting station and the ending station when introduced. Only technical halts were applied for this train for staff change, cleaning, water filling etc. However, because of low occupancy, all its technical halts except Udupi were converted into commercial halts.
This train runs twice in a week. Train no: 12223 departs Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Tuesdays and Saturdays and reaches Ernakulam Junction on Wednesdays and Sundays. Train no: 12224 departs Ernakulam Junction on Sundays and Wednesdays and reaches Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Mondays and Thursdays.
The rake has 4 Sleeper coaches, 6 AC three-tier coaches, 2 AC two-tier coaches, 1 AC first class, 1 pantry car and 2 EOG cars making a total of 15 coaches.
It is hauled by a Lallaguda based WAP-7 electric locomotive from end to end.
On 3 May 2015, 10 Coaches of Duronto Express derailed near Balli at 6.24 am shortly after departing from Madgaon Junction (MAO) . No casualties were reported.

Ernakulam Junction railway station (also known as Ernakulam South, code: ERS) is the biggest railway station in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. Controlling 376 train routes at a time, it is the busiest railway junction station in South India. At ₹158 crore (equivalent to ₹167 crore or US$21 million in 2020) in financial year 2018–19, it is the second largest in terms of passenger revenues in Kerala and the fifth largest in Southern Railway. It is an A1 classified station operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and comes under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. Ernakulam Junction is also the first fully disabled-friendly railway station in India.

Ernakulam Jn was first opened as Ernakulam South in 1932 when the metre-gauge line then terminating at Ernakulam Terminus railway station (ERG) was extended from Pachalam to the Cochin Harbour Terminus on the Willingdon Island for proximity to the Kochi Port. Ernakulam North, Perumanur (later closed), Mattanchery Halt and CHTS were the newly opened stations on the route. In 1946 the station was converted into broad gauge as part of the Shoranur–CHTS line, linking it directly to the rest of India via the Mangalore–Jolarpet mainline at Shoranur Jn. In 1956 the Ernakulam–Kottayam metre-gauge line was opened and further extended to Kollam in 1958, joining to the Kollam–Trivandrum line, connecting Ernakulam with Trivandrum for the first time.
Since the opening of the Kottayam line made it a junction, Ernakulam South was renamed Ernakulam Junction, and Ernakulam North was renamed Ernakulam Town.

Ernakulam Jn is a railway junction with lines branching off from it to four different directions:
North towards Chennai/Bangalore (via Palakkad) and Mumbai (via Shoranur–Kozhikode)
South towards Thiruvananthapuram via Alappuzha–Kollam
South-west towards Willingdon Island and Cochin Harbour Terminus (CHTS)
East towards Thiruvananthapuram via Kottayam–Kollam

Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (also known by its former name Kurla Terminus, station code: LTT) is a railhead and a major railway terminus in the Kurla suburb of Mumbai, India. LTT is managed by the Central Railway. The Kurla and Tilak Nagar suburban railway stations are located nearby. It is one of the five railway terminals within Mumbai, the others being Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar on the Central line, and Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus on the Western line.
LTT is located in the middle of two suburban railway stations, Tilak Nagar and Kurla, on the Harbour line. It is easily accessible through Tilak Nagar as a direct overhead bridge is made to LTT from Tilak Nagar.
