According to Shrimad Bhagwat Puran, Skanda 10, Chapter 83, once upon a time, the women of Yadav and Kaurava clans had gathered and were narrating among themselves the famous deeds of the Lord in Tribhuvan.Then Draupadi said, O Rukhmani Bhadre, O Jamvati, Satya, O Satyabhame, O Kalindi, Shaivya, O Lakshmana, Rohini and other wives of Shri Krishna. You all tell us how Lord Shri Krishna himself, by imitating people with his Maya, married you all. Then all the queens started giving details to Draupadi one by one about how their marriages with Shri Krishna were completed. When Lakshmana's turn came, she said, Queen, Dev Rishi Narad used to repeatedly sing songs of God's incarnations and leelas, listening to that and thinking that Lakshmi ji, after abandoning all the Lokpals (guardians of the world), described only the Lord, my mind got devoted to the feet of God. Sadhvi Ji, my father Vrihatsen loved me a lot, then he came to know my intention, then he did this to fulfill my wish, Queen, just as your father had organized the Matsya Bhed in the Swayamvar to get the brave Pandava Arjun, my father also did the same. In comparison to your Swayamvar, the specialty of ours was that the Matsya was covered from outside, only its shadow was visible in the water. When this news reached the kings, then thousands of kings from all over, who knew all the weapons, started coming to my father's capital with their respective gurus. My father welcomed all the kings who came well according to their strength, manliness and age. With the desire to get me, they picked up bows and arrows in the Swayamvar Sabha. Many of those kings could not even string the bow. They kept the bow as it was, many kings tied the string of the bow from one end and pulled it to the other end. But they could not tie it from the other end.

Many kings fell down due to its blow. Queen, famous warriors like Jarasandha, Ambasht King Shishupal, Bhimsen, Duryodhan and Karna strung the bow. But they could not find the location of the fish. Pandava warrior Arjun saw the shadow of the fish in the water and also found out where it was. He shot the arrow very carefully but it did not hit the target. His arrow only touched it. Queen, in this way the pride of many proud people was broken. Most of the kings gave up their desire to get me and also gave up their attempt to hit the target. Then God picked up the bow and in a playful manner, effortlessly strung the string on it, aimed the arrow and seeing the shadow of the fish in the water only once, shot the arrow and brought it down. Goddess, at that time there was cheering on the earth and the drum started playing in the sky. At that very moment I entered the arena. I looked at the kings sitting around and then slowly placed my garland around the Lord's neck. When I garlanded my Lord in this way, Draupadi accepted him. Then the lustful kings felt hurt and became very annoyed.
