Ethereum Proposal to Change ETH Issuance — Here's Why It's Controversial

Ethereum is debating a potentially major change to its issuance policy.
A new proposal called Tapered Issuance Burn aims to prevent Ethereum's staking ratio from growing far beyond 50%. The argument: excessive staking could increase operator concentration, push solo stakers out, weaken credible neutrality, and eventually allow liquid staking tokens to compete with ETH itself as money.
But changing Ethereum's issuance curve creates its own problems. DeFi has been built around staking yield, institutions expect it, solo stakers could earn less, and changing monetary policy could undermine ETH's credibility as money.
In this video, I break down both sides of the debate, explain how the proposed issuance curve works, and why I ultimately think the proposal is unlikely to pass.
