Morning and afternoon runs at the Golden Spike National Historical Park. Here we have replicas of both Central Pacific 60 "JUPITER" and Union Pacific 119 operating at the same spot that on May 10th, 1869 that Central Pacific and Union Pacific met, connecting the East Coast to the Pacific by rail for the first time. Trains rolled through here until 1942 when the rails were scrapped to serve the war effort after the causeway has been built across Great Salt Lake. However, by 1979, 2 miles of rail had been relaid here and two operating replicas were brought out to the site. Today, the site is a near-authentic representation of the original ceremony site.
