Recently, a pair of senior aquarists from the Tennessee Aquarium flew to the Gulf Coast to take part in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Lionfish Invitational. During this multi-day event, dive teams worked to remove as many Lionfish as possible while collecting helpful data on this aggressive invasive species' activity in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary.
This trip represented a unique opportunity for our specialists to experience and help to protect the life-rich system of coral reefs upon which the Aquarium's 618,000-gallon Secret Reef exhibit is modeled!
