What You'll Need
A medicine ball and superior chest and shoulder strength.
Why You Should Be Doing This Exercise
Why not throw explosiveness and stabilizing work into your push-up routine? Why, as an athlete, would that not intrigue you? Shall we?
Start
Simple set-up here. Place a medicine ball beneath your head and assume a push-up position. That means your hands should be shoulder width apart and your body forming a straight line, essentially parallel to the floor. Let the strengthening, stabilizing, and explosions begin.
Middle
The push-up takes place. You think, big whoop. But as you're pushing up, explode off of the ground so that both of your hands land on the medicine ball. Please take the necessary steps to ensure that you do not bust your arse here, because it's happened to us, and it's not fun.
Finish
Having successfully landed on the strategically placed medicine ball, now explode off of it to return both hands to the you-were-just-here-push-up-position. Strength, explosiveness, and stabilization personified.
Key Don'ts
Maintaining good, classic, push-up posture throughout here is a definite do. Also, throw in really focusing on exploding off of the ground to land well on the medicine ball. For that matter, throw in really focusing on exploding off of the ball to land well on the ground.
