How well? Will it run anything at night?
This video shows adding a solar panel and diode to charge the simple DIY carbon and lead rechargeable battery.
The cell was made in the last video and now it's time to try it on solar, to make it a useful solar rechargeable battery cell.
Uncharged, such a cell will run a simple LED flasher oscillator for over 7 years, with no degradation - there is no metal Anode to rust!
The question is, when solar charged will it run a string of 30 LED lights at all? Especially because a thunderstorm came through during the video and ruined the sunny day!
This video describes adding a solar panel to the battery, then seeing if it will put on any charge during a thunderstorm and general bad weather during the day. The battery was then attached to a Joule Thief type circuit and a 30 LED string to test the run time.
