In 1897, on the North-West Frontier of British India — today’s Pakistan — 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment defended an isolated outpost called Saragarhi against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.
For seven hours, under Havildar Ishar Singh’s command, they fought with courage, honor, and unshakable faith.
When the walls fell, they fought to the last man — refusing to surrender.
Their resistance saved nearby forts and became a symbol of ultimate sacrifice.
All 21 soldiers were posthumously awarded the Indian Order of Merit — the highest honor of their time.
Even their enemies saluted their bravery.
Today, Saragarhi Day (September 12) stands as a testament to valor, duty, and brotherhood.
They didn’t fight for empire.
They fought for each other.
They fought for honor.
“Jo Bole So Nihal… Sat Sri Akal.”
