Have you ever wondered where the "D.C." come from and why?
It all started in 1790 when President George Washington selected land along the Potomac River for the nation's capital. The area, originally a 100-square-mile diamond, was ceded by Maryland and Virginia. The city was named after Washington, while the district was called Columbia—a patriotic reference to Christopher Columbus used during the American Revolution.
