When you talk to yourself, especially in moments of stress, disappointment, or doubt, you’re not just addressing the present version of you. You’re also speaking to the younger version who once felt confused, scared, hopeful, or unseen. That child is still listening.
If you wouldn’t shame, rush, or belittle a child who was learning, healing, or hurting, then you don’t deserve to do that to yourself either.
Talking gently to yourself means:
Offering patience instead of punishment
Choosing encouragement over criticism
Allowing mistakes without withdrawing love
Speaking with kindness, reassurance, and safety
Your inner child learned how to survive based on how they were spoken to. Now, as an adult, you get to rewrite that language. Every soft word you offer becomes a form of healing. Every moment of grace tells that child, “You’re safe now. I’ve got you.”
