Why Dried Fruit for my Olympia Peak?
Peak week goal is to load carbs and manage a small waist. Dried fruit fits this goal:
-low volume carb dense food
-high in potassium to aid insulin and glycogen storage
-low fiber (raisins, dates) to limit digestive bulk
-Mix of glucose and fructose to use multiple transporters for GI absorption
In peaking many start lowering protein are devoid of veggies and fruit, which limits potassium intake. This can start impacting fluid balance as well.
This is during the carb load a great time to implement these food items.
I use this offseason as well for guys on high food intake to still get in their fruit servings per day as 30-40g of dried fruit will count as 100-150g whole fruit for the day.
Be mindful some dried fruits are high fiber and can cause bloating, so read your labels.
