Most people drive through this area without realizing that these stones were once part of a massive plantation estate connected to early land grants, powerful colonial families, and the plantation economy that shaped Jamaica after the English seized the island in 1655.
During my ancestry research, I discovered a surprising connection to Matthew Gregory Lewis, a plantation owner who documented life on Jamaican estates in the early 1800s.
That discovery led me back to this very location.
