Before that time he owned two companies, but at some point felt a personal bankruptcy. From the urge of doing good for others he set up the foundation Goed doen voor een Ander (= Doing good for someone Else) Through his online calendar Bezoekouderen.nl, everybody can plan a coffee meeting with an elderly person to spend a little time and have a good chat, laugh or learn from each other!

On stage, together with Edward, was Mrs Van Huis (98) who lost her entire family. She says: “Being alone is not much fun. You need someone who actually talks to you, and who answers all your questions. Sometimes there were days when I did not see anyone. No one. Loneliness is best solved by making contact. And good advice is what I want to give you in return.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
