China wants to control the entire South China Sea region, and has called the UN ruling "a worthless piece of paper." Manila is expanding its coast guard to secure its sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea. The Chinese coast guard regularly clashes with Filipino military and civilian vessels even within the country's exclusive economic zone. And now, Chinese scholars have called the Batanes region of the Philippines a part of Taiwan, and therefore of China. Dr. Don McLain Gill, a lecturer at the Department of International Studies at De La Salle University joined Firstpost PoV to discuss how the Philippines is combating an expansionist China.
