My name is Sandrine Pelissier. I’m originally from France but I moved to North Vancouver about fourteen years ago. I am a painter. I do mostly landscapes that are inspired by what I see here.

I have a dog so i walk my dog every day and I go into the parks and forests and that’s where I take most of my reference pictures.

It’s important to work on my own pictures because I want to be part of every stage of the process. I also want that I’ve been to that place that I am painting so for example behind us I think it was Princess Park just in the neighbourhood or sometimes it is Mosquito Creek.

Today I am working on a floral painting. it’s the same idea with lots of patterns except that it is a smaller size. I like the fluidity of the paint so I work with liquid paint so it could be water colour, fluid acrylic. Sometimes I work with drips and splashes. I like the liquid quality of the paint.

Most of the time I will add some drawing medium so it could be graphite or it could be…some patterns are drawn with a dipping pen and ink.

Because I am interested in mixing drawing and painting in the same work so some parts are painted and some parts are drawn.

The patterns I choose sometimes they have a relationship with the subject and sometimes they don’t. I kind of think about it sometimes as an influence of me being French because they remind me of the art deco kind of style you can see in Paris for example so I am kind bringing my French heritage to British Columbia.
