During the Sunday, 6/18/17 "Parade of Trains" In Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, riding north towards Kings Highway inside the oldest model of NY elevated or subway car still operational.
The cars on this train were built between 1903 and 1907. Known as the BU [Brooklyn Union] type, they have a wooden body on a steel frame. Passenger access was provided by open platforms at both ends of each car. A trainman between each pair manually opened and closed folding gates to admit or bar passengers, hence they are also referred to as "gate cars".
Operated by the BRT [Brooklyn Rapid Transit] in elevated service, they continued in use through the absorption of the BRT into the BMT and then into the Transit Authority in various parts of the system until 1969.
