Join us for today’s mindful walk through the pretty French Catalan village of Joch (Jóc).
Joch is located in the Pyrenees-Orientales department in the South of France, shadowed by the Canigou mountain. Nestled in the foothills of this mountain, Joch overlooks the Vinça Plain and the Tet Valley with a population of 367.
The centrepiece is the castle, the fortified houses at the heart of the village which are recorded as early as the 11th century, providing protection to the residents and the surrounding countryside. The church dates from 1776.
You can see the Rec Major waterway crossing the village which dates from the 13th century and brings water from the Lentillà river, which makes its way through a network of sluice gates and channels to the gardens and agricultural land below, where olive groves, grape vines, soft fruits and chestnuts are cultivated.
We did this walk in June at 1400 local time. It was 22 degrees Celsius with a moderate breeze. Joch’s coordinates are 42°37’06” North & 2°31’34” East.
