In this episode, we step into Exodus 22 through 24. For many readers, this section feels severe. The commands sound absolute. God feels uncompromising.

But when we slow down, a pattern emerges.

The same God who warns against rebellion immediately promises to walk with his people. Law is given. Then guidance follows. Judgment is spoken. Then presence is offered.

These laws are not about control. They are about formation.

Israel has just come out of slavery and pagan culture. God is not recreating Egypt with new rules. He is shaping a people capable of carrying his presence without destroying one another.

Exodus 22 places the vulnerable at the center. Foreigners. Widows. Orphans. The poor. God says he hears their cries personally.

In Exodus 23, God promises to send his angel before them to protect and lead them. In Exodus 24, the covenant is sealed with blood, and the leaders are invited to eat and drink in God’s presence.

Law leads to covenant. Covenant leads to communion.

This pattern points forward to Jesus, whose blood confirms the covenant and brings forgiveness.

The question is not whether God wants to be close. The question is whether we are willing to be formed by his holiness.
