Katana Wako - Unique to the Wako Pirates, Katana Wako compare most similarly to Katana Samurai, but with worse melee attack, charge bonus, and armor. However, they are much cheaper, have superior defense, and can activate the Banzai ability to temporarily tip the scales in their favor. In the campaign, Katana Wako never make an appearance; the Wako pirates can't build land units, sticking to ships instead.

Katana Heroes are limited to one regiment, and have a scant number of men. They make up for this with superlatively good statistics, boasting superb attack, defense, charge, and morale. Their morale of 40 means that they often fight to the last man, should the need arise. Their armor is a cut above that of Katana Samurai, making bow fire less effective against them. However, their limited numbers make them vulnerable to armor-piercing matchlocks, and their status as katana infantry makes them vulnerable to cavalry despite their superior attributes. Shimazu Katana Heroes have +3 melee attack, +2 melee defense, and +2 charge bonus when compared to their standard counterparts. They are also cheaper to train and maintain (at 1,500/200 respectively rather than the standard 1,600/250). When trained by the Date Clan, Katana Heroes have +2 charge bonus.
