So now that the final season of My Hero Academia is here, how will the series be remembered in 10 or even 20 years from now? Assuming AI hasn't enslaved us by then, MHA should be remembered as the foundation of modern anime and ill explain why. When the anime began in 2016, it came at a time when entertainment was dominated by superhero movies. In 2016 alone we had X-Men, Captain America, Batman vs Superman, Deadpool and more, with hero movies generating over 5 billion dollars in that single year. Therefore a series where everyone on earth has powers, it honestly couldn’t have come at a more perfect time and for a lot of people MHA was the first anime they ever watched. Now because I’m old I actually grew up watching Dragonball Z and other shows that have been mostly forgotten and so for me, by the time MHA came out I had stopped watching anime completely. However because these first seasons of My Hero were so good and had so many hype moments, that’s what got myself and others back in to watching anime as a whole. Infact in 2024, one CEO said that MHA was responsible for the global wave in popularity that anime is now experiencing. Some examples of this wave include Demon Slayer surpassing Superman at the box office, Netflix quadrupling its anime content in the last decade and manga sales outside Japan being at their highest level in history. Before My Hero Academia the landscape was nothing compared to what it is now but it was this show brought countless people fans into the space and inspired fans like myself to create these insane theories. Personally I remember being shocked at just how many people took an interest at my Bakugo time travel video but stuff like that showed how engaged the fanbase was during its peak. For that reason MHA should be remembered as the ultimate gateway series and unlike some of the shows that I watched when I was growing up, I reckon in 20 years most of us will still remember it. On a personal level MHA is also the show that got me in to content creation and so in honour of that I wanted to rank my personal favourite moments from the series...
