Have you ever stood on the edge of the unknown — knowing God has promised something, yet the river is still in front of you? 🌊
This message is for that moment.

In this powerful and faith-building short message, “Our God Who Goes Before You”, we journey through Joshua 1–3, Deuteronomy 31:8, and the unforgettable crossing of the Jordan River, discovering a life-changing truth:

👉 God doesn’t just promise the land — He personally makes the way.

Joshua stepped into leadership after Moses — a giant of faith — passed the baton. As a young man, Joshua had seen it all:
✔️ The Red Sea part
✔️ Bitter waters made sweet
✔️ Manna from heaven
✔️ Water from the rock
✔️ Victory over Amalek
✔️ God’s presence at Sinai
✔️ The pillar of cloud by day and fire by night
✔️ Clothes that never wore out and feet that never swelled

Now it was his turn — a grieving nation behind him and a flooded Jordan in front of him.

And God speaks one of the most comforting promises in all of Scripture:

📖 “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8, NIV)

But notice this — the promise was spoken, yet the river was still there.

✨ Faith Isn’t Passive — It Responds

We also look at the unforgettable true story of Larry Walters (“Lawnchair Larry”), who dared to step into the unknown with a lawn chair and helium balloons. His story reminds us that faith is spelled D.A.R.E.

As Larry famously said:
🗣️ “A man can’t just sit around.”

Faith requires movement.

Joshua didn’t send soldiers first.
He didn’t test the river.
He sent God’s presence first.

📖 “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God… follow it.” (Joshua 3:3)

The Jordan didn’t part when Joshua spoke.
It didn’t part when the people believed.
🌊 It parted when God’s presence touched the impossible.

📖 “The feet of the priests touched the water’s edge… and the waters stopped flowing.” (Joshua 3:15–16)

⚠️ A Warning from Ai: Past Victory Doesn’t Replace Present Obedience

After the miracle of Jericho came an unexpected defeat at Ai. Why?
Hidden sin. Unconsulted decisions. Self-confidence replacing dependence.

One man’s private disobedience affected the whole nation.

👉 What we tolerate privately can defeat us publicly.

But here’s the good news — God exposes sin not to shame us, but to restore us.

🛠️ Real-Life Application

Just like clearing a blocked pipe filled with hidden grease, God often needs to remove what’s clogging the flow before blessing can continue.
