Florida law cracks down on high-tech tracking devices used in crimes

Описание: WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — They're tiny, easy to hide, and tricky to spot.

Apple AirTags and other Bluetooth tracking devices help us find our keys or luggage. But in many cases, criminals are misusing them to secretly track a person's every move.

Jannifer Diaz is a licensed mental health counselor and program manager at Palm Beach County Victim Services. The nonprofit helps many victims who've been stalked with trackers.

"Palm Beach County Victim Services has served 164 victims of stalking [so far this year]," Diaz said. "You're at that point where now you think you're safe, but you're actually now being monitored in everything that you're doing."

Stalking someone using a tracking device is already a crime in Florida, but the updated law now comes with stiffer punishments due to the rise in cases.
