How I find my fishing spots along east coast beaches - a few tips and tricks

As we move into alert level 3 come 11.59 tonight it will be allowing us a little more freedom but that's not to say we still shouldn't be careful out there so keep doing what you have been doing in alert level 4.

The great news is,, we can get out there and get a line wet. OK we haven't got our full NZ outdoors lifestyle back just yet, but there should be something for all with in the change.

Fishing wise we are allowed to fish off the beach, wharf or on the Kayak close to shore, low rocks like at the end of beaches people seem to be saying is OK - in the end commonsense just needs to be used so no mountain climbing to your favorite spot. When fishing the beaches on the east coast it can be quite difficult to catch fish unlike the west coast where you can even catch them during the day.

Daytime fishing is enjoyable, nice warm calm day is blissful but makes for hard fishing if you are after a feed of snapper. I have put this little vid together showing you how I find my spots around my local east coast beaches. You won't need to travel to my local to catch fish, you will have the same kind of features near by. Just remember calm, clear, still bright days can be very difficult to fish (enjoyable yes especially with the fam) but if you are after a feed it can be hard.

Here are a few tips....
1 - Fish those magic hours early morning before light (get there a couple hours before light) or late evening couple hours before dark. Fish will be in the shallows snooping around for food and a lot of times this can be baitfish.
2 - When fishing the middle of the beach try spot some low foul / dark patches along the beach - fish not only use this for safety / shelter but use for ambushing pray and foraging for food.
3 - Fishing the ends of beaches, this is where sand meets the rock. There can be a lot more food here for them unless you know where shellfish / worm beds are on the beach.
4 - Keen to fish during the day, cloudy days are great even rainy days. After a storm / swell and even sometimes during if it's not to crazy. Swell / waves will stir up the bottom, drag stuff off the rocks so fish will be on the prowl.
