Highly respected academic Prof. Sampath Amaratunge assumed duties as the new Chairman of the University Grants Commission by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Speaking at this occasion Higher Education Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said, "doors of state universities will be opened for talented students as universities will be modernized in the near future to be par with the foreign universities,"
“We will make positive changes in the University and Technological Education. New President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will create a Sri Lankan student generation filled with noble human qualities to face the global trends in the future,” he said.
He was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and the Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Directors.
