Cardinal Tagle - Advent message from Cox's Bazaar

Here is the message in full:

I bring to you greetings and I bring to you also a message of hope. I came here first to help these poor people celebrate the memory of the vision of Pope Francis here in Bangladesh and Myanmar a year ago. And to bring them the assurance of his nearness to all the suffering people of the world. And I came here in the name of the Confederation to encourage the work of Caritas Bangladesh.

And I want to tell you the good news, Caritas Bangladesh, a small Caritas within our confederation, within our family is doing excellent work but it is not possible without the collaboration of many other Caritas member organizations. What I see here right now is human suffering but I see here also the hope that the Caritas confederation could bring to people.

Our witness of love and concern for any person no matter who that person is, for a response they need solidarity, love, and compassion, Caritas will be there. It is a message of hope because no Caritas members are left alone. We within the family, experience selfless giving so that the mission of one community becomes the mission of all respecting. The goodness and the capacities of each member in this case of Caritas Bangladesh but enhancing it so that it could respond to a crisis which is beyond its capacities to respond to. And then what we see, what do we see, almost a miracle that only love and compassion, selfless love could do.

So here I am this first week of advent, a people waiting for a future and for us advent is waiting not for something but for someone. Jesus, who came poor, who became a refugee himself but who never stop loving and I hope this coming from this camp would encourage all of us never to get tired of loving.
