He has been charged under the POCSO Act and faces potential arrest. The Shankaracharya has moved the High Court seeking a stay on his arrest, claiming that the Uttar Pradesh government is intentionally trying to frame him. He pointed out that the person who filed the FIR has a prior criminal record. Furthermore, a journalist has come forward alleging that his daughters were coerced into making sexual harassment allegations against the Shankaracharya. Justice Surya Kant stated that the court would not allow the institution to be defamed and that "the law will take its course."
