The European Union has zero power over the international political scene

Описание: During the debate on the ‘Instrument contributing to stability and peace’’ taken place in the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels, Golden Dawn MEP Lampros Fountoulis took the floor. He highlighted the non-existence of the European Union in the international political scene, as well as the suspicious role of the Non-Governmental Organisations and the Commission that funds them.

First of all, the majority of the arguments being discussed today gives the impression that we live in a parallel world, far away from reality. The European Parliament does not realise that the European Union as an institution has from minimum to zero influence over the field of international diplomacy and geopolitics.

Only two member states have actually great power on an international level, Great Britain and France. From these two member states, one will shortly leave the European Union, whereas the other one restricts itself to following the steps of Germany, which has almost no influence over countries outside the European Union and is rather inexpert in diplomacy matters.

Moreover, when none of the countries, except from Greece, fulfil their commitment to defence expenditure under the NATO rules, how is it then possible to support safety, stability and peace on a global level. But, of course, the question is who gave the right to European Union to impose safety in third countries and fund the ones serving its interests.

Finally, the Commission’s concept about enabling Non-Governmental Organisations as one of the instruments for promoting stability and peace shows its lack of awareness and fills the air with a strong odour of machination.
