The diminished scale is a symmetric scale (those that have exactly the same sequence of intervals whether played in ascending or descending ways) created by the sequence: Tone (C-D) + Semitone (D-Eb) + Tone (Eb-F) + Semitone (F-F#) + Tone (F#-G#) + Semitone (G#-A) + Tone (A-B). This particular scale is characterized by being enharmonic since it can be played from different starting points and be called with different names. This is why the examples below are limited to just three kinds of scales and not twelve as the others.
