This Woman Built a Private Navy and Defeated the Ottoman Empire

Описание: This is the untold story of Laskarina Bouboulina, the only woman in naval history to command a private fleet of warships and blockade an empire.

For fans of World War 2 history, women soldiers, and resistance fighters, this story is the 19th-century equivalent of the British SOE or French Resistance fighting against occupation. Just as Chinese guerrillas fought the Japanese Army or German resistance fighters defied the Nazis, Bouboulina built a secret navy right under the nose of the Ottoman Empire.

In 1821, she did what no woman had done before: she constructed a 33-meter corvette called the Agamemnon, armed it with 18 heavy cannons, and led a fleet of eight ships into battle. She didn’t just fund the war; she commanded it from the deck.

In this video:

The Secret Navy: How she built a warship disguised as a merchant vessel (similar to Q-ships in WW1 and WW2).

The Blockade: How she starved out the fortress of Nafplio, a feat comparable to the Battle of the Atlantic.

The Massacre: The moment she rode a white horse into a burning city to save enemy women from her own troops—a moral choice that rivals the most complex stories of German and American soldiers in WW2.

The Betrayal: Why she died by a pistol shot in a family argument after surviving years of naval combat.

If you enjoy learning about forgotten women soldiers, Soviet female snipers, American WASPs, British spies, or the German and Japanese fronts of World War II, this story proves that women have been commanding armies and navies long before the 1940s.
